A List of Christmas Gifts For Cyclists
It’s that time of year when we all become super stressed out trying to find the perfect gift for the loved ones in our lives!
Buying for a cyclist can seem particularly stressful, especially if the buyer is not a cyclist themselves. It’s hard to know which brands and which products might appeal to the recipient, so we’ve put together a list to help give you some ideas and inspiration!
Tools and Servicing
More and more people are buying their Christmas gifts online, and there are some awesome cycling gifts that you can buy online.
For riders that are mechanically minded you simply can’t beat a good set of tools. One of the most useful and universal set of tool a cyclist can own is a decent set of allen keys, and our allen keys of choice are the Brick Lane Bikes Rainbow Allen Keys for £18.99.
Owen has a set of these allen keys, and has owned them for years. Despite heavy use both here in the workshop and at home our set is still going strong. Don’t be fooled into thinking the bright colours will only appeal to girls either, lots of guys have complimented O’s set of allen keys and the colour coded keys are easy to spot when you’re surrounded by tools and parts!
If you’re looking for something a bit more high end then check out the Silca HX One allen key set for £125! This set comes beautifully presented in machined beech box. Very classy!
Another universal tool that is worth every penny is the Park Tool Chain Checker priced at £9.99. This simple to use tool enables a cyclist to monitor the wear on their chain, allowing them to make an informed decision about when to replace the chain and hwen to get the drivetrain examined by a mechanic. A great tool that int he long term can offer a cyclist great savings on their servicing!
If you’re looking for a tool that the recipient is unlikely to have then check out the TyreKey for £8.99 - a tool to make removing and installing road tyres a much easier process! These are a fairly new product to the market but have been met with much praise by professional and amateur cyclists alike.
If you’re really unsure about what to buy you could always buy a gift voucher from us! You can cover the labour costs of a Basic Service or an Annual Service for your loved one. Alternatively, if you contact us we can arrange to provide you with a gift voucher that can be used against goods purchased from our workshop rather than servicing!
A bidon (or cycling bottle) is a great gift for a cyclist. Bidons over time degrade and it’s good practice to replace them on a regular basis to avoid bacteria build up.
We’ve fallen in love with the booze themed Romance x Howling Hops Beerdon - which are currently on offer at 2 for £12!
If the rider in your life is what we would call in the industry a ‘weight weenie’ (someone who is ever in the pursuit of shaving a few grams off the weight of their bike wherever they can) then the Elite Fly 550ml bottles at £5.99 will be a great gift.
Bidons vary greatly in weight but these uber lightweight bottles are instantly recognisable as being much lighter than the ‘standard’ water bottle.
Jewellery and Accessories
If you’re looking for something cycling themed but not necessarily instantly obvious to an outsider then look no further than Respoke Designs. We recently published a blog post on Respoke Designs, but to summarise briefly this Malvern based family owned and run company recycle old bicycle spokes to make beautiful pieces of jewellery and accessories.
They make a great variety of pieces including cufflinks, necklaces, earrings, rings, bracelets, bangles and more! They have themed collections for music lovers and they are regularly producing new items and designs.
You can buy products by Respoke Designs directly from their website and they also offer gift vouchers if you’re not sure. We’ll soon have a collection of their items in our store so watch this space! We are super proud to support and promote Mike and Sam’s awesome work!
If luggage is more your bag (I’m here all week - try the fish!) then we can highly recommend the Aerocoach TT/Race Day Kit Bag. This incredibly well designed bag is perfect for any riders who race. Having received one of these ourselves as a present we can honestly say this makes for an awesome gift!
The bag includes lots of useful pockets for various accessories such as skinsuit, shoes, helmet (and a handy laundry bag), bottle holders, race license pocket, shoulder and backpack straps, race day checklist.
If you like the idea of more everyday luggage you should definitely check out Cycle of Good. We also published a blog post recently on the work Cycle of Good do too, but again to briefly summarise they ship old inner tubes from the UK to Malawi, provide people there with the means to convert the tubes into luggage and accessories and then have the products shipped back here for resale; helping to reduce waste going to landfill and helping an otherwise impoverished community to earn a living.
They offer a number of cool gifts including wallets, purses, phone holders, colourful travel wallets, courier bags, shopping bags, duffel bags and totes.
You can buy directly from the Cycle of Good website so check them out!
If you’ve heard the cyclist in your life mention the word ‘tubeless’ at any point and if said cyclist is attracted to bright shiny bike bling then you might want to check out the Muc Off tubeless valves.
These precision machined aluminium valves, priced at £22.50 for the pair, are available in two or three sizes sizes (44mm, 60mm and 80mm) come in a variety of colourways including:
Black, blue, red, green, gold, orange, pink and purple.
