The ninth edition of the Retro Run, a fantastic fundraising cycling event that occurs in Bromsgrove, has been confirmed with a date set for Saturday 6th July.
This much loved event sees riders dig out old retro bikes from sheds, garages and other forms of storage, spend time and money on ensuring that they look right and ride safely, and then on the day they meet at The Nailers in Bournheath and ride their nostalgic throwbacks from local pub to local pub, raising funds for a different charity each year.
Retro Run Christmas Edition
As you may recall, Owen and I attended the first ever Christmas Retro Run in December 2018. Bearing in mind the possibility of poor weather, on that occasion the ‘run’ went from The Nailers Arms in Bournheath straight to Bayleys in Bromsgrove.
Despite the shortened run and the smaller than usual turnout, the organisers raised over £850 from that event for the Dodford Children’s Holiday Farm.
As you can see from the photo, everyone (except us - who rocked up donning Lycra 😂🤣 ) rode their retro bikes in Santa outfits! The response from the public was fantastic with lots of people stopping giving the mass of riders opportunity to get in and out of junctions safely.
Retro Run #9 - Saturday 6th July 2019
As of yet, the Retro Run organisers have not announced which charity they will be fundraising for. However, based on past events, the charity is likely to be local, and relevant to either children or physical / mental health. The chaps choose their cause each year based on life experiences of their friends, family and loved ones as well as feedback from the local community.
Anyone interested in riding The Retro Run #9 can use the Facebook event to stay up to date with the latest. Riders will be departing from The Nailers Arms at 12pm.
